Does The Abbey Tavern allow dogs?

We welcome all well behaved dogs at The Abbey Tavern.

We can provide bowls of water, just ask a member of staff if a refill is needed.

However, please bear in mind that not all our guests are dog lovers and we must respect that, some guests may have a fear of dogs, especially the large and lively ones. Some guests may have allergies to their fur or may not like having dogs around when eating.

Due to the increased number of four-legged friends in our pubs, we have introduced these guidelines so that all our guests can relax and feel comfortable.

To make sure that everyone (both two-legged and four-legged) has a safe and enjoyable visit, we ask that all dogs and their owners follow these guidelines please:

  • They must be well-behaved and always under close control – no excessive barking, jumping up, disruptive or aggressive behaviour.
  • Always kept on a lead whilst on the premises.
  • Comfortable around people and other dogs – if your dog becomes anxious, reactive, unpredictable, or interferes with other customers, we may have to ask you to step outside.
  • House-trained – please clean up any mess created by your dog
  • Kept off furniture – including chairs, sofas, and tables.
  • Always supervised and not left unattended anywhere on the premises.
  • Positioned so they do not create a trip hazard or obstruct walkways, entrances, exits, or service areas.
  • Out of the way of staff and customers carrying food or drinks

Please be particularly aware of children; a child seeing a dog of any shape or size may unexpectedly run towards it; this may frighten your dog causing it to react unpredictably

For everyone’s safety, we may have to ask you to reposition your dog if needed, particularly during busy periods

Please note:

Management does not take responsibility for the behaviour of dogs anywhere on the premises. We reserve the right to refuse entry to the person responsible for a dog or to ask them to leave to if these guidelines are not followed.

We are proud to be a dog-friendly pub – thank you for helping us keep it that way!

What is our complaints procedure?

In the first instance, if you’re in the pub, do ask to speak to a manager

If you’re not happy with our response, or you’re unable to speak with a pub manager, please contact us on info@abbey-tavern.com as soon as possible. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can and at the latest, within seven days.
